Cicadas
The cicada is a part of the order Hemiptera and the superfamily Cicadoidea. There are over 2500 species of cicada, with many more that are undiscovered. This species is a widely recoginsed insect found throughout tropical to temperate climates. The wings of the cicada are advanced with transparent membranes and prominent veins [4].
As nymphs the cicada dwells underground and feeds on root sap, at the end of this life stage they create a passageway to the surface and emerge. The nymph then crawls up a tree or plant where they moult and emerge as an adult, the exoskeleton remains on the tree, abandoned [15].
